About the New Portrait of George Washington
The world-famous sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) in his official statue of George Washington in Richmond, VA., according to historians captured the most accurate likeness ever created of the first American President.
The NEW portrait of George Washington by Igor Babailov is based precisely on that sculptured likeness, transforming it into painting. The artist’s portrait research and references also included Houdon's preliminary sculpture studies of Washington for his official statue - his bust and the life mask at Mount Vernon, Virginia.
